TRACTORS
Kubota at SIMA

Sima, the international agricultural machinery show held in Paris-Nord Villepinte from 20 to 24 February 2011, is the ultimate event in the agricultural sphere. It is the only exhibit that answers all the farmers' needs: machinery, animal husbandry and renewable energies. This year, more than 1,300 exhibitors took part in the event.

The Kubota stand welcomed a vast number of visitors who showed a keen interest in our M Series. This year's novelty was the M8540 Power Crawler, designed and manufactured by Kubota.

Fun and games
Kubota was a partner of the Terre-Net Média contest, in which participants had simply to answer a few questions on an interactive terminal on the stand. A Kubota hostess enlivened the activity to encourage visitors to try their luck. More than 1,300 people participated.
There were two lucky draw winners: one of them won a two-week loan of an M130X tractor and the other, a two-week loan of an RTV900.
Kubota also organized another competition in partnership with the Réussir press group. The victor won a one-month loan of an M108S tractor.

Assessment
Overall, SIMA 2011 was quite beneficial for Kubota. If the number of leaflets handed out – more than 6,000 during the 5-day show – is anything to go by, visitor response to the M Series was clearly positive. Kubota also welcomed a good number of prospects interested in distributing Kubota tractors. By LT

Kubota at SIVAL

With 20,000 trade visitors, the Sival specialty crop exhibit, held from 11 to 13 January 2011 in Angers, proved to be quite a success. For its 25th anniversary, the show that specializes in vine, tree and vegetable growing equipment and techniques attracted some 600 exhibitors as well as a steady stream of visitors from all over France, Europe and America, which the organizers see as a sign of optimism on behalf of the industry and of some French agriculture segments. Professionals looking for reliable, top-quality products naturally turned to the Kubota range of M40 narrow tractors. By SA

New: the M8540 Power Crawler

A newcomer to the Kubota agricultural machinery range, the 85-hp M8540 Power Crawler is equipped with rear triangle crawlers. The only tractor in the world to be fitted with this type of equipment as standard, it is aimed at users concerned with protecting the soils and optimizing grip in difficult conditions. The first machine was sold by Barnezet in the Var (South of France). By SA

Kubota in the finals at WorldSkills France

The 41st edition of the "Olympiades des Métiers", the French National Finals of the WorldSkills Competition, was conducted last February at the "Paris Expo Porte d'Orléans" exhibition park. Kubota Europe supported the event by placing an M9540DTHQ tractor at the organizers and participants' disposal.

For the skill of agricultural mechanic, the nine enthusiastic and motivated regionally-selected candidates competed in a series of tests consisting of diagnosing mechanical failures, carrying out repairs, starting up tractors, etc., as well as answering a trade and technical quiz.

The event was also an ideal opportunity to illustrate and promote mechanization-related skills to high-school students and their parents through films, driving simulators and information provided by the members of APRODEMA (trade organization for the development of agricultural mechanization and machinery), SEDIMA (association of distributors) and AXEMA (association of agricultural machinery manufacturers). A well-deserved retirement for Christian Chapuis

After more than 28 years of dedicated and loyal service to the company, Christian Chapuis decided to go into a well-deserved retirement last January.
Throughout his long career in the Kubota Europe Tractor Management division, he was in turn responsible for developing the France Sales Department and later for the Export Sales Department.

Giving a brief summary of 28 years is no easy task. Christian Chapuis was one of the architects of the Kubota brand expansion in France and abroad. He also played a major role, for more than 20 years, in the promotion of our trade as an active member of the landscaping equipment section of SECIMA, a French association of international trade companies in agricultural machinery, working with other members, official organizations and trade fairs.
For five years, he was elected to the association's management committee during which time he was appointed Chevalier du Mérite Agricole (knight of agricultural merit).
We wish him a long and happy retirement! By MB & HGB

Decease of Alain Vaugrente

Our Technical Manager, Alain Vaugrente, passed away in the night of Sunday 20 March 2011. He had been a member of our team for 25 years already… He was an esteemed and respected colleague.

Alain began his career in Kubota Europe way back when the first diesel mowers with grass collectors came out… He was totally committed to the development and large-scale production of our grass-collecting systems. He made a useful contribution to Kubota and played a leading role in helping to expand the activity so dear to him. Through hard work, sparing neither time nor effort, he rose up the ranks to become Technical Manager, leading a 12-strong team.

We all keep fond memories of the times we shared with Alain… from the trips around France for our regional meetings to troubleshooting the dealers' little and big technical problems through to the numerous product trials…

Alain also dedicated much of his time to diverse charities, such as Lino Ventura's Perce-Neige for mentally handicapped children, and had a passion for horses.

We worked alongside him for so long we thought he was indestructible. He left us quietly... He was a good person, and we'll miss him.

We join the family in extending our thanks for the many expressions of support and sympathy we received. By HGB

CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY
Baumag 2011 – A successful colour switch!

Only a few months ago, Kubota mini-excavators, painted in personalized yellow, stood out from afar. Now, the colour scheme has turned orange: our Swiss distributor, Hutter Baumaschinen AG, has joined the Kubota family for good.

For the first time at Baumag, the construction machinery show held from 2 to 6 March 2011 in Lucerne, in the heart of Switzerland, Hutter displayed our machines… in orange! Drawn by the new shade, customers flocked like never before to the huge stand, attractively displaying the colours of "the land of the rising sun". And as usual, they were warmly welcomed by the members of the Hutter team, who, driven by their determination to rise to the new challenge, will try, after a record year in 2010, to sell even more mini-excavators in 2011, but in orange this time! The year has got off to a good start in Switzerland. By CP

Samoter – Showcasing 2 new models: KX016-4 and KX019-4

Early March, Kubota took part in the 28th Samoter trade fair, a three-yearly international earth-moving and construction machinery show held in Verona, Italy. With a 440-m2 futuristic stand entirely dedicated to mini-excavators, Kubota emerged as the leading specialist in mini-excavators. Number one in the world and Europe, Kubota became in 2010 the leader on the Italian market in the 0 to 6t mini-excavator segment with a market share of more than 18%, far ahead of its main competitors.

This outstanding result is attributable to the Italian team's many years of hard technical and marketing efforts, to the products – that perfectly match Italian demand (urban machines) – and to a dealer network that, over the years, has become one of the best in the industry.

What better event than Samoter for Kubota to highlight two new models in the category that reigns supreme in Italy, that is, the 1 to 2-ton line, that still accounts for 50% of the market. The machines on display were the KX016-4 and the KX019-4, two "conventional" machines, which complete the urban range for customers seeking stability, unrivalled performance and comfort. These minis are highly innovative and come with a new control panel, easier access for maintenance, automatic speed reduction under load and proportional controls for the auxiliary power line (KX019-4), not to mention the new design in keeping with the 4 Series' bigger models. ENGINES
Samoter – Presentation of the Stage IIIb engines

The presentation of the Stage IIIb engines proved to be the success we had expected at the Samoter exhibit held in Verona, Italy.

It was the ideal opportunity for Kubota to showcase the solutions adopted for its V3800 engines in the 56 to 75-kW power range.

This category of engines is to be launched on the European market as of January 2012.

We would like to thank SAIM S.p.a., our partner and distributor in Italy, for the successful organization of this event, as well as all the construction companies that visited our stand. By XH

GENERAL INFORMATION
Disaster in Japan

I would like to express my sincerest thanks for the countless messages of support you sent me in the wake of the tragedy that recently swept over Japan. I am extremely touched by your concern and affection for Japan and its people.

Most fortunately, none of Kubota Corporation's employees nor their families was injured. As for our factories and offices, they suffered very little damage.
As a subsidiary of Kubota Corporation, Kubota Europe, together with its Works Council, made a donation to the French Red Cross in order to help hundreds of thousands of Japanese victims. By Kazunori Kawakami, President
